Down Time For a Bit

Kozumi's Quote of the Week:
Like I'm fucking Winnie the Pooh or somethin o.O "Fucking Winnie the Pooh" as in I AM him, not the action. Cause yeah...THAT would be extremely awkward o.O
--Choco, when describing how relaxing karate was for him

Dio: Welcome back, worms. How was the con?
Dea: Lovely. I think Lex's still recovering.
Lex: O_O GOD MY LEGS HURT.
Diz: Wimp. -_-
Dio: Anything of import?
Diz: There's some seriously good Brawl players out there.
Lex: Hot chick population fucking boomed. I mean, shit, every three steps was like "shwing!"
Dea: We missed the cosplay contest. Ah well. ^^
Dio: Dynamite. Today we're posting from Random Lunacy HQ today. This place is a mess and I'm Dio "This Shit is Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" Maxwelle.
Dea: I'm Dea "Cosplay Retiree since 2004" Maxwelle.
Diz: I'm Diz "Your Ike is a Cheating Whore" Maxwelle.
(all three) TOTAL relation.
Lex: And I'm Lex "I'd Climb Her for a Dollar" McCloud.
Dio: We need to clean this place up. There are costumes everywhere. Its like a freakin' orgy happened last night.
Dea: .......Is that a Lucas costume over there?
Dio: ........Ok, an orgy in one room and Lucas just happened to sleep over WELL AWAY FROM THE NOISE.
Lex: And you call me the pedo.
Diz: Says the guy who laments not getting that Ness cosplayer's contact info.
Lex: She was cute!!

Con fallout isn't pretty. Right after the con, I slunk my way back out to Manteca, and watched my precious little sister KP graduate middle school. *SNIFF* I'M SO PROUD. Therefore, my room looks like a closet exploded on my floor and my desk. I'd show pictures but there's clean laundry i haven't put away since Friday.
Lex: Dio, is this your thong?
Dio: ?? Nope. That's Raz's.
Lex: I just threw up a little in my mouth. ><
Overall: of the $55 I paid as entrance fee for the whole weekend, I'd say it was worth $40.

The Pros
-Costumes. They were pretty good this year. Some bad, but a lot of real gems.

-Hot chicks. God-dayum. O_O They were out in full force. And I mean, you couldn't go 3 yards before you saw another hottie dressed as Electra go by.

-Artists' Alley. It was amazing this year. So many artists, so much talent, and even cool things like those adorable Earthbound plushies I'd been eyeing for about a month. ^^ Yes. I have a Lucas and Ness plushie. I am so happy I could die, but I at least wanna get married before that so the dying in happiness will hafta wait.

-Relaxed atmosphere. Very little drama, thank god. Only a few snafus, but nothing on the huge range as previous cons.

-Dante, Vergil, and Wesker were there. Yeah, I mean the voices, but it was fucking awesome. ^^

-PA Music. The overhead music gave my ears something pretty to hear, like the Brawl soundtrack, various Final Fantasies that included even Crystal Chronicles, and even RickRoll Friday morning. Hell, anything's better than Nami Tamaki's ONE ALBUM on rotation for 4 FUCKING DAYS. ahem.

-Quiet Maid Cafe. It was in the back, they had more real estate, and the maid were cute (mostly Skuld, cuz she's fucking adorable). No clamoring fanboys.

The Cons
-Asshat con ops. On the whole, w/ the exception of very few volunteers (1st years of course), and the video room guys, the con staff were buncha assholes.
---EXAMPLE: Peacebonding and Con Safety.
The rovers for peacebonding were ridiculous. I completely understand banning arisofts and actual blades for weapons. That's fine. I was down w/ getting my league baseball bat peacebonded for Ness (even had Lucas' stick and the plastic bat peacebonded). I understand getting most large sticks and waterguns peacebonded. I understand common sense.
Photobucket
But when you make someone peacebond a fucking paper sword but let a titanium golf driver go, that's just RETARDED. Seriously. I took my friend's "sword" (might I remind you its made of cardstock, shiny cardstock) to get it bonded after the rover told him to, and even the girl who did it agreed it was stupid. But we had to anyway.
I had no less that 4 people tell me to peacebond my bat as I walked literally 50 feet to walk my sisters to the at-con reg line, and another one tell me on my way up TO the peacebonding station. That's just ridiculous.
----Example: How NOT to handle an incident
There were a few Team Fortress scouts running about. It was a neat and simple costume. They, like Ness (and to an extent Lucas) carry bats as part of the costume. Cool. Then i hear from my friend that an incident occurred where a scout hurt someone w/ their bat. Suddenly, the con ops panic and start confiscating EVERY bat from any cosplayer, Ness' included (just so you all know, Ness was pretty popular; there were roughly 5 of us this year). Straight up started taking them from random scouts.
Ok, I understand that something happened, and that they were trying (in the dumbest way possible) to ensure not only safety, but to try to identify the weapon that was the culprit (and the owner). But to basically take them from peoples' hands w/ little explanation, that's not cool. The person injured gave a description, and its not the best, since this is based on someone in costume, but I doubt that the victim could pick out the weapon when they were all assembled.
A scout I knew personally was understandably upset; he was not at fault but he, along w/ others like him, were being punished for someone else's mistake. I felt that the panicked confiscation and sudden ban on bats was a bad way of going about the problem. No, i didn't get mine confiscated, since I simply carried it discreetly, but if I was confronted, I would have asked them to escort me out, since I would leave the con. They were unfairly taking other people's property w/o properly explaining the situation, and instead leaving the grapevine network to explain the situation.
If Fanime had, on their signs and in their programs, left a line about how they reserve the right to change their rules as they see fit, then I would have to give in and accept their decision, even if I saw it as unfair. After all, I understand the liability. Only they didn't. No where in any form did I see this right posted. Therefore, since bats were not a banned item going into the con, to others who had nothing to do with the incident, a sudden ban (that really only lasted through Sunday night) was a violation of our right to have it as a prop. I may be muddling my laws here and the such, but I stand by my opinion.
I had a yo-yo ball for Ness, and I spent the whole weekend swinging it around for pics and generally swinging it because my hands don't like to be idle. I never hit anyone but myself w/ it (I got good fast, simply cuz Ness looks like a n00b if he ends up hitting himself 50% of the time XD). I would play w/ it while I walked, even next to people. Did they make me peacebond the yo-yo, even after the Scout Bat Scare? No.
But they could have. They should have. But, like a titanium golf driver, the yo-yo slipped under the radar.
You guys know that yo-yos used to be a weapon right?

-Registration
I don't pre-reg anymore. I should but I generally forget. That's the way the ball bounces. I'm ok w/ waiting in line, a longer line, of course, than the pre-and early reg'ers. Its nice down time, and I rarely have plans that first friday that early (reg usually starts at 8).
Now I see that this year I should.
Why? If you've never been to a convention, usually the line for at-con registration is about an hour to 2 hours long, where in you wait til you get to the booths, and a kind volunteer will take your info and money and print your badge right there. Then you go along your merry way. One line, one-two hours wait, one paper badge and a program bag. Simple right?
This year? You spend an hour or so in line til an available computer opens up. You enter your info into the computer, which will send your info to the booths. Right? Well, after you hit send on the comp, you write down an authorization code, and stand in another line (shorter, usually 15-20 minute wait), where you wait for one of maybe 2-3 booths (down from 6-8 in previous years), hand over your code, and money (they're supposed to check IDs...which they didn't), then they send you over to a table.
This table is the print area, where volunteers rapidly and frantically shove your name into its holder and lanyard, and have people w/ bad vocal projection shout your name like a lottery over an already impatient crowd. This is by far the worst part, since not only do at-cons have to wait, but early-reg does too, and there is no alphabetical, numerical, or indeed an sort of order to help organize. I was told this has "more flow". I saw it as a complete collapse of organization. By Saturday, it was metered out so there wasn't an angry mob by the time you had to go to collect your badge, but this was unacceptable. I'm sorry, but as long as the line was in the past, it was much more straight-forward and logical than it was this year.
In short: registration was a mess.

-Unhappy staff
It happens every year, but this year, the volunteers and staff were understaffed severely. It seems the mistreatment from previous years had caught up with the con. Long hours, bad management, little compensation (i had a friend who paid admission earlier this year, then was roped into staff, and wasn't yet reimbursed for the admission). This is what staffing volunteering at Fanime has become.
And if the staff was unhappy, esp. the rovers, you can bet they took it out on the attendees.

-The Internet
I don't mean the connection speeds (though they sucked). I mean the dumbshits in the Guy Fawkes mask playing Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" on a boombox the whole con, in an unending rickroll. Its only funny the first day, asshats.

-I lost the game
SHUT THE FUCK UP, I DON'T CARE.

-Dealer's room
Eh. Kinda sucked this year. i spent more at Artists' Alley than the Dealer's Room. It was small this year, and I heard cuz to get your foot in the door, it took a grand per table. O_O As such, the prices were a lil (sometimes insanely) higher. Good thing I found the Lucas wig at Swap Meet cuz the wig ppl didn't come this year. *shrug* Wizzywig was there tho. ^^

-Protesters and a special appearance w/ Jesus
I have nothing against the guy who dressed up as Jesus for the con. Call me sacriligious, but it was pretty awesome. He was cool. What wasn't cool was the protestors telling us we're all going to hell outside the con. I don't know if it was anime, the con, the cosplayers, the crossplayers, or yaoi, or what he was protesting, I only know that he was telling us we were all going to hell.
Until our pal JC showed up and stole his thunder. That was cool. ^^ I was down w/ that.
Its just that the incident totally took precedence over the Brawl gathering that I missed by mere minutes. T_T Damn protesters.

-Yeah, I still regret not getting the cute Ness' contact info. She was cute. ^^

That was my weekend in a nutshell. All things considered, it was pretty nice. ^^ My cosplay docket was:
Thursday (swap meet): Wii-tan
Friday: Mio Amakura (Fatal Frame 2)
Saturday: Lucas (Mother 3/Super Smash Bros. Brawl)
Sunday: Ness (Mother 2/Earthbound/Super Smash Bros. Brawl)
Monday: Ninten (YES, technically it was Ness, but I wore the red neckerchief and spent my last hours messing w/ ppl)

Highlights:
(Sunday nite)
Random guy: Hey, um, Ness, ca I ask you something?
Me as Ness: Shoot.
RG: How did it feel....when some bug came through time from the future to tell you you had the save the world from aliens?
Me: .....I honestly though i was stripping BALLS. Seriously. I was all "DUDE, Porky, that bug is talking to us....WE ARE SO TRIPPING BALLS RIGHT NOW. We should not have eaten those mushrooms in the forest". ....But in all honesty, it wasn't so bad in the end, cuz I got to hook up w/ a hottie [Paula] in the end. *Thumbs up*
RG: You just seriously made my night.
Me: Just kidding, I'm Ninten. You got the wrong Mother character.
RG: Really?? O_O
Me: No, I'm messing w/ you. I really am Ness. ^_^

I'm a horrible Ness, i know. XD That's why being Ninten on Monday was fun.

(Saturday afternoon)
*Me (as Lucas) and Choco (as pallette swap Mr. Saturn Ness) walk by a artist's booth*
Artist Guy (to Choco Ness): Hey, you know you wanna buy this bookmark. (bookmark in question is a Pokemon Trainer bookmark)
Me: SOLD.
AG: Huh? *looks at me* Really? You wanna see the others? (other bookmarks were Marth and Pit)
Me: Nope. Just PT. *gets wallet* Of all the characters in Brawl, he's the only one I'd bang. PT's sexy.
AG: O_O
Me (Still as Lucas, mind you): Seriously. I mean....Marth's a fag, I don't like Pit, Ness is a little bastard, and Lucas is too cute to think about like that. So, *points to PT* I'd hit that.
Artist Chick next to AG: Yeah. And Pit's Greek, so we know what his preferences are.
Me: oooh. Exactly. How much?
AC: $6.
Me: Sold.
AG: You made my day. I had no idea we'd turn Pokemon Trainer, or any of this, into something sexual.
Me: Yay. ^^ Look, Choco. PT!
Choco: O_O Lucas....
Me: Oh yeah....I'm Lucas today. -_-

I'm an even worse Lucas. T_T

(And just so I can clear this up, I am really serious. If I had to pick which Brawl character [girls excluded cuz I'd pretty much bang them all; only Samus would bang me ^^] to bang, it boils down to PT/Red. I think Marth and Ike are fags [and, as I've mentioned, I hate Fire Emblem charas], Pit's Greek, so we know he's already gay, Snake would never be home, Captain Falcon...just....no, Mario/Luigi/Link are taken [technically], Lucas is too sweet to think of in sexual terms, Toon Link is far too weird, I don't do furries [which counts out Fox, Wolf, and Falco], FUCK Ganondorf I hate him so much, Wario...GOD FUCK NO, and Ness.....well, Ness is a different story. But PT? Hell, I'd hit that and it'd be super-effective. ^__^
Ok....Ness is a close second, but only cuz he's a little punk. He'd Nancy Kerrigan me when I wasn't looking. Yes, I have a shota complex. You should know that by now)

ANYWAY. All in all, good con. I enjoyed myself. If any of you guys are in town/are local to San Jose next May, I heartily recommend coming down. ^^ The only place where you'd see Electra hanging out with Shredder next to the King of the Cosmos.

*Next con--Yaoi Con W00t*

No Country for Twins

Ok, Number 1: Today's blog is very pic intensive, but since you're here and reading this, that means the page'll be at least 1/3 loaded anyway.
Number 2: Huge spoilers for obscure games (Fatal Frame, Devil May Cry, Mother 3, Silent Hill, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates and Clock Tower). Thank me later.

Ok, last night I was talking to my sister about some of my current obsessions, the least of which is my precious Lucas of Mother 3/Super Smash Bros. Brawl. We then got onto the topic of twins in video games. Let's be honest, twins are special; they don't occur very frequently (unless you're in inbred Japanese village, but more on that in a bit), nor do identical twins occur terribly frequently either.

Recently, there has been a new classification about a third type. If one egg is fertilized by a single sperm and then during development, it splits into 2 embryos, and that's how we get identical twins. Fraternal twins are created by 2 different eggs fertilized by 2 different sperm, and this is much more common. The third type comes about when 2 sperm fuse w/ 1 egg, which was up til now unknown, and let's face it, pretty damn rare. This makes this particular type of twin more genetically similar to one another than fraternal, but less genetically similar than normal identical twins.

This post will now go through all the series I can think of regarding twins in video games, and how one twin is always given the short end of the stick, or is dealt with in a dramatic and traumatic manner. I have included rare caveats and evil twins only because I can and I ran out of twins to use. I will do follow-ups to this article if I am given more examples, but today we're going to talk about a few relatively popular games (ok, one is insanely popular, the rest are probably sleepers).

Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly (PS2, X-Box)
Let's start with a big one. FFCB (my snazzy abbriviation) is about twins, and practically every main character in the game is one. Mio (right) and Mayu (left) Amakura wander into the Lost Village, are mistaken for a pair of dead priestess twins that were responsible for keeping the well-being of the village.
Mio and Mayu are very close sisters, and once when they were playing in a forest near where they lived, Mayu (the elder, born-first twin) slipped and fell while chasing Mio (the younger, born-second twin). Mayu's leg was broken to such a degree that she would forever walk with a severe limp (if you are quick to catch it, in the flashback, Mayu's right leg is literally twisted in the opposite direction). Mio blames herself for letting her elder sister get hurt, and this is the crux of her story during the game. Her guilt creates a bond and attachment to Mayu, whom must now rely on her younger sister. Most of the game, you'll be trying to find and protect Mayu (not unlike the escort mission-heavy Resident Evil 4), whom is slowly becoming possessed by the last set of twins who fled the village during a ritual to calm the gate to hell beneath the town.

The ritual, referred to in books only as X as it is taboo to speak of it, requires that a pair of twins (boy or girl, it does not matter) become priests/priestesses, to spend a period of isolation for purification, then are led to the gate of hell itself (the Abyss), where the "elder twin" (according to tradition, the elder twin is born second, because it allows the "younger" sibling to be born before it) strangles the "younger" to death with their bare hands. The dead twin is then tossed into the Abyss, whose pain calms the gate to hell until the next ritual. This strangulation creates a butterfly like mark on the neck of the dead twin (hence the "crimson butterfly" theme), and this twin becomes a crimson butterfly that protects the village. The remaining twin (called The Remaining) lives on in reletive obscurity, also having the red butterfly on their own neck as a reminder of their ascent to a god-like deity through the ritual of becoming one.

Photobucket
The previous set of twins, Yae and Sae, ran from the village with the help of the Remaining from the last ritual, a boy named Itsuki (whose now dead twin's name was Mutsuki), and the villagers were only able to capture Sae. Sae was then hung at the Abyss and then tossed in, hoping that she would suffice as a sacrifice, only she came back (w/ a little help from another sacrifice) and slaughtered the entire village (an event referred to as The Repentence). Suspended in unending night, All God's Village ensnares people who wander into it, including a pair of twins who look strikingly like Yae and Sae (but there is no evidence of Mio and Mayu being related to anyone in the village).

One theory as to why Itsuki and Mutsuki's ritual failed (and thus the need to use Yae and Sae later) is that the twins must have some sort of hatred to one another (ie one twin with strng feelings against the other), and that Itsuki and Mutsuki had none of the animosity that perhaps Yae and Sae had (Yae wanted to leave the town, while Sae felt obligated to stay). These lingering feelings of regret are key to Mayu and Mio's endings, of which there are 4. We will talk only about 2 (as one was a game over ending, and the other was a happier, but not as satisfying X-Box director's cut ending).

The first ending, the canonical one, has Mio fnding Mayu at the Abyss, who is ready to accept her fate as the twin who would die to protect the village. Mio is then forced to strangle her sister, and as Mayu falls into the Abyss after her death, Mio realizes her actions and chases the butterfly that is Mayu out to the village, where hundreds, even thousands, of red butterflies flutter and then fade as dawn climbs over the trees, ending the eternal night over All God's Village. After the credits, Mio watches a man-made lake that was built over the village, on her neck is a red butterfly mark.

The second ending sees Mio defeat a possessed Mayu, forcing Sae's soul back into the Abyss. Mayu falls but Mio catches her, and though she has been warned to never look into the pit of Hell, Mio does, and goes blind from the horror. Somehow, the twins make it out of the village, and after the credits, they are seen at the lake (as in the first ending). Only there's a difference. Mio is completely blind (shown wearing a blindfold like some of the enemies of the game), and Mayu has a secretive smile on her face; now Mio must rely on Mayu, instead of the other way around.

Its no surpise that the subject of the death of a twin is paramount to the plot in FFCB. Not only does the main character lose a sibling/loved one (a common theme in Fatal Frame), but in certain instances, they are forced to kill the sibling. Its a painful, and palpable feeling. No one should have to go through with watching a sibling die, nor should they have to kill them either, and in that way, the player is drawn into the story. Both girls are the victim, and thus get the short ends of the stick. What happens to them is neither of their faults, but a fulfillment of destiny that was out of their hands perhaps long before they were born. On the other hand, it does suck to be possessed by a murderous spirit and have the ability to only limp 2 miles and hour, so perhaps Mayu is a little more pitiable. I'm still thinking of her smile at the end of the second ending.

Also: All God's Village has an abnormal amount of twins occurring at an abnormal constant rate. Thsi may be due to the village's reclusive nature, and it was caused by many, many years of inbreeding (just look at how many butterflies you see in cutscenes; that is a stupid large load of butterflies, and thus a stupid large load of twins). My theories stand that all the twins in All God's Village and Mio and Mayu are identical twins.

Devil may Cry (PS2, X-Box, PS3)
Speaking of twins killing twins, let's talk about DMC. Evil threatens world, Dark Knight Sparda saves world by standing up to demonic breatheren, evil defeated and day is saved, and Sparda settles down w/ a human wife and they have 2 children, twins named Dante and Vergil. If you've never played a DMC game, then the Inferno references may confuse you. Barring that, you start the series off as Dante, ass-kicking devil hunter with a huge sword and two guns. You eventually encounter a knight in awesome armor, Nelo Angelo, that kicks the living crap out of you. Said knight is quite interested in the amulet that Dante wears. Remember this.

Years previous (DMC3), Dante was starting out his bidness of kicking devil ass when his twin brother Vergil suddenly shows up after being missing for a few years. Let's cut to the chase: they fight. No surprise. Vergil's serious in his quest for power, be it for following in daddy Sparda's footsteps or just to prove himself. Dante's much more lackadaisical, doing what he pleases because he can. This doesn't quite gel w/ Vergil, who is seen to kicking the ever-living shit out of you in your first encounter. Its evident that the absence, or perhaps Vergil and he never got along to begin with, that the two aren't going to reconcile easily, or at all. Both of the twins carry and amulet, two pieces of one whole amulet, that seal off the gates to hell. Yeah. This whole time they were all being manipulated by another character, Arkham, to his own whims.

There's a battle. If you've played the series in numerical order, then its safe to say that this time Dante beats Vergil, and we assume Vergy dies (a sacrifice? you bethe judge). Let's cut back to DMC1, wherein we last left our hero recieving a beat down from a devil knight, whom was distracted by Dante's amulet. Yes, you guessed it, the Nelo Angelo is indeed Vergil, corrupted by head devil honcho Mundus, who appears in DMC3 to Vergil. Chronologically, the last battle with Nelo Angelo in DMC1 is the last battle you have w/ Vergil, whom we assume dies after their epic battle.

Photobucket
The tension between Vergil and Dante is popular, especially with the female fans. Nothing is more sexy than twin brothers fighting to the death. However, there's an element of sadness, since I felt that neither brother really hated the other, only that they could never agree. There is no reconciliation between the brothers; they straddle two very different, but very related worlds: the Demonic World and the Human World. Eva, their mother was human, and their father was a devil, so they are, in fact, only half-blooded on both sides. Vergil cannot see himself on the human side, and seems to reject his human half, whereas Dante embraces it and rejects his devil lineage. In this way, they will never agree as they only can see themselves as one or the other (as of DMC3 and 1, because I feel Dante has come to terms with his devil half by 2 and 4).

In this set of twins we see not only the death of a twin at the other's hands, but irreconcilble differences between them that creates a wedge. Our hero is Dante, like Mio, and so we sympasize with him since we spend the most time with him. However, unlike Mio, Dante is almost as pitiful as Vergil, whom not only opposes his twin, then gets possessed/corrupted, only to die again. Despite his power and his ability, Vergil cannot be saved like Mayu because Vergil does not need saving from Dante; both brothers need saving from themselves and their inability to straddle the line between human and devil. In this relationship, both Vergil and Dante get the short ends of the stick.

In terms of types, I think that they are identical twins. Seriously, they look exactly the same.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates (DS)
RPGs are infamous for the twin tragedy plot twists, so let's look at FFCC: Ring of Fates. Like the first Crystal Chronicles, you can play as one of 4 races: The human like Clavats (melee swordsmen in RoF), the dimunitive Lilties (now an alchemist class), the sexy and scanitly clad Selkies (once melee, now ranger class w/ bows and arrows), and the mysterious magically inclined Yukes (magical class, but w/ a melee/ranged attack). The story mode of RoF tells the story of Yuri (brown-haired boy) and Chelinka (blonde haired girl), two young clavats who have mysterious powers regarding crystals. They, with their Yuke friend Alhanalem, Lilty friend Meeth, and Selkie friend Gnash, battle the evil Hierophant, who wants to harness the powers of crystal users in conjunction with the blood-red moon to control time and space.

Chelinka and Yuri's father was a knight to the king, and protector of Lady Tilika, the princess, whom was also a crystal user. Their mother was Aleria, another crystal user, whom was taken and used in Hierophant's plan to summon the moon. Note here that the loss of a mother keys in here, almost as importantly as the relationship between the twins themselves. Nearly all these stories have the loss of a mother (not so much in Fatal Frame 2, but other Fatal Frames, the loss of a parent is there). Their father Latov dies protecting the twins in the first few chapters of the game, so the twins are left to care for themselves, mostly through Yuri, the younger of the twins.

At the event of their father's death, Yuri and Chelinka use their powers to fight, and in doing so, Chelinka loses the ability to speak (she uses telepathy unitl she is able to regain the ability to speak later). Chelinka spends most the beginning of the game bossing the less than bright Yuri around since she was the first to be born. Her role of being big sister is important to her, even though deep down, she doesn't think she's up to it. Their childhood is marked with tragedy (losing their mother as infants), and trials (they, rather Yuri, must become self-sufficient to take care of his catatonic sister without Al or Meeth). But their bond is strong; for Yuri nothing more important than Chelinka, and vice versa.

Because their powers are liked, they are unable to use their powers seperately. Chelinka's crystal only glows for her, but only if Yuri is around. Yuri's powers, which concern command over time and space, are much more powerful, but only if Chelinka is with him. Time and space, as well as alternate dimension, plays a key role in the game. Those who can use the crystal can alter time and space, even stop it, or remake it. When Yuri uses his power, it leaves him near death twice in the game. The first time, his demise is averted by the spirit of the now dead Tilika, the second is a much sadder event.

When they defeat the Hierophant, Yuri and Chelinka effectively trap him in an unending loop of time, but doing so shaves time off Yuri's life as well as reduce Chelinka to a catatonic state like earlier in the game. They have altered their reality to that of a happier time, though they lose their old friendship with Meeth, Al, and Gnash. Eventually, time catches up with Yuri, and as he lays dying, Chelinka uses the last of her power to restore him his life, though it does lead to her death. Chelinka's final act of saving her brother was her final act as his older sister, accepting her role completely. This, however, devestates Yuri, pleading with her to, for once, stop being the older sister.

Her final act leaves him with power over time and space, which he uses to remenice over his past (the first chapter of the game). Through Chelinka's past self, he makes the decision to redo everything, and makes up his own destiny: a happy homelife with Meeth, Al, Chelinka, and their parents, whom are alive and well. Playing multiplayer on your own allows you to speak to the family, whom are unaware of the change in reality (with the acception of the twins, whom both reatin their older memories.

Chelinka and Yuri are bound by a fate that transcends time and space. As their power is linked to each other's presence, the Hirophant tried to find realities where they were no longer together, but the love and fate that surrounds the twins proves that there is no singular reality where the two are not together. This bond is much stronger than other twin bonds in other games, to me. In all the infinite realities of the universe, the fact that Yuri and Chelinka were ALWAYS together was the only constant in their world. It transcends time and space itself, and in this way, makes them much more powerful.

You play the game solely through Yuri and the other characters (you can only play as Chelinka, technically, if you choose the female model for the Clavat race in multiplyer, but you ca customize her appearance, including hair and clothes), so you feel a special attachment to Yuri. Chelinka's death devastates Yuri, and also the player, since this takes place at the end of the game (I mean, who dies in endings??). As the elder sister, her death helps Yuri discover his true purpose and power, and thus allows him to create his own happiness. Few games allow for that kind of feeling. While it is Chelinka who I feel got shafted, it was for the best, since everything turned out for the best in the end.

I could say Yuri and Chelinka are fraternal twins, but there is a possibility that they may be semi-identical, as Yuri looks like Latov w/ Aleria's hair color, and Chelinka has her mother's features, only with blond hair like her father.

Guilty Gear (arcade)
Ok, real brief, as I know next to nothing about the Guilty Gear backstories outside of whatever Wiki and the official site tells me. Bridget, shown above, was born in a village where identical twins were bad juju. So to cover up the fact that the family ha twin BOYS (yes, you heard me, twin boys), they raised Bridget as a girl. Bridget's a bounty hunter, easily fooled, but good at heart. Othern' that, that's literally all I know about him. That and he has a bear named Roger. Yeah.
I'm gonna call this one a shaft on Bridget, but to a lesser degree, as Bridget doesn't really seem to care that he's not really a girl. I dunno. I know nothing about his brother. I'll bet he's cute.

They're identical twins. Period.

Mother, AKA Earthbound (NES, GBA, Wii)
Come ON, people, you all knew it was going to come to this. XD Ok, Mother 3, released on the GBA, features Lucas and his family going on an adventure to save their island from the evil Pig Mask Army, led by, as we learn later, Porky from Earthbound/Mother 2. Note, everything I know about Lucas comes from sources other than the game as I cannot read Japanese, so bear with me.

When i made my accquaintence w/ Lucas, it was through Super Smash Bros Brawl, wherein his story had him hanging w/ Pokemon Trainer, avoiding being turned into a statue by Wario, and watching Ness be frickin GodAWESOME. In the space of a few chapters, he goes from, OMGHELPme-Niichan-Ness to I'm-gonna-bust-a-PK-Thunder-CAP-in-your-ASS, which was pretty awesome all things considered, as no one speaks a line in the whole game. As a result, I also think PT is fucking sassy.
Back to Lucas. Early in M3, you play as Flint, Lucas's papa, wherein you find out that their mommy Hinawa had died. Yes, another dead mom. It never fails. I'd like to think that Lucas is a cuter and much more vulnerable Dante, only he wears stripes rather'n red, and doesn't use guns.

Why? Cuz later on, when you're able to play as Lucas, the mysterious Masked Man you encounter and fight turns out to be none other than your twin brother Claus, whom was thought dead when he left to avenge their mother's death. Yeah.
Now, unlike the other twins (w/ the exception of Bridget), we know which twin is the older and which was the younger, yet with Claus and Lucas, we don't know. Fans project Lucas as the introverted twin, which logically makes Claus the extroverted one. This says that perhaps Claus is the elder brother (taking into account that he takes it upon himself to avenge their mother). On the other hand, as in the case w/ the Sparda brothers, Vergil was the elder, and he was the quiet one. Its up to speculation (or just better research as I'm too lazy to double check my work XD). Um....prolly semi-identical? Their hair is different.

Who got the short end of the stick? Prolly Claus, who, like Vergil, gets to die at the hands of his own twin. I personally will say its Lucas, since he's so quiet and introverted, but he does grow up quickly (quite quickly when you consider the million story plots in the Brawl story mode). But then, I'm biased. I think Claus is a dirty whore. XD Kidding.

Sorta.

Ok. I'm biased towards Lucas.

Come on. Wouldn't you be?

Clock Tower 2/Ghost Head
Not so much as a twin, or evil twin, so much as a latent, homicidal personality. Alyssa, the main character, is host to a brutal alternate personality named Mr. Bates. Yeah. Evil twins count, but only barely.

Silent Hill
The Alessa, Cheryl, Heather thing is complicated at best, so if there's anyone who wants me to go in depth, I'll do it in the next follow-up. Suffice it to say its ot so much as twins as splitting up Alessa into another person (Cheryl), and then Heather being born again after the events of SH. Yeah. Its complex. But its less like twins and more like reincarnation.

Ok, this article has gone on long enough, much like Mary's letter in SH2, but I'd like to offer you this food for thought. I like twins. Cuz Twincest is the new black

Unless its w/ Lucas, cuz then its just wrong.

The 2007 Halloween Countdown is at Day 29

Music: Until the Day I Die by Story of the Year
Video: Fatal Frame 2

My first AMV I made a year and change ago, maybe 2 years. It took me a grand total of 3 months (all together), and survived (barely) a hardcore Mac crash, from which I nearly had to re-build from the ground up. I'm happy with it. Enjoy.

Halloween Advent Calender, Day 8

Things I Learned from Fatal Frame

--If you're a folklorist, chances are that you're going to die. Violently. Fiction writers may also apply.

--Never underestimate the power of Flash.

--A 6th sense constitutes for good photography.

--There is nothing wrong with hiding. Even men do it.

--It is physically impossible for one to climb rocks in a skirt, no matter how high the rocks are.

--Men screw up rituals.

--Resemblance runs deep in haunted villages; ghosts are essentially blind and can mistake you for their Aunt Mildred, plot willing.

--Even helpful ghosts can hurt you.

--Crying ghosts usually haunt closets.

--Candles ward off miasma, but burn off pretty quick.

--When things go monotone, you can bet something bad's around the corner.

--Twins are special.

--Its OK to read someone else's diary.

--Women are too light to move furniture, but small ones can crawl under floorboards. Its because their breasts are smaller.

--Pain, loss, and isolation are keys to sealing gates to Hell.

--True love often gets in the way of the complete severing of material world attachment.

--I like 90 speed film. I like Zero speed more.

--Switching lenses on the fly is an art.

--Stone Mirrors can raise the dead, but only once.

--I've learned to fear radios....wait, that's because of Silent Hill.

--Stains can be sinister.

--You can't be together forever.

--TRUST THE TRACKING.

--In case of soot marks from people being "spirited away", use club soda. And change the upholstery.

--Why didn't Hagrid tell Ron and Harry to follow the butterflies? Well, I think I know why.

--First person mode is unweildy.

--Patience. Crush Lens.

--Every ghost has its patterns.

--New things to fear: the blind, strollers, gravity, and stains.

--Ritual Masters don't always know what's best.

--Maybe its about time you looked under your desk....

Ah, What Newfound Hell is It Today?

Kozumi's Quote of the Week
"I have wasted my life/on Animal Crossing."
--Last two lines of "ODe to Digital Crack Cocaine"

School has started. Updates are far and few between, since homework is all-consuming. This is what College Level English does to a social life: X_X

My review on my first takes on Fatal Frame 3: Voice of the Tattoo? Way too late to do much but nonetheless here we go:
Gameplay
Excellent and wonderfully responsive. Rei turns where I want, forward-in-relation-to-screen controls make evading ghosts smooth as silk (completely unlike that bastard child of control movement, forward-in-relation-to-character, a la Resident Evil and Silent Hill). Besides that small detail that the Japanese prefer their confirm button to be O, whereas we Americans like using X, and vice versa for cancel, the camera buttons were also pretty responsive.
Combos are more fleshed out. Remember the the triple banger combos in Crimson Butterfly? Now, your combo link-ups are only limited to walls (when enemies are pushed into walls) and distance (when the enemy is pushed back too far), creating giant combos that make Mio's Camera Obscura look like a broken iZone polaroid. Personal best: 8 shot combo cuz I rock....XD
Graphics
AMAZING. Rei=uber-sexy. Miku? So damn adorable you wonder if they broke the mold after her. The House of Sleep is stunning in all its detail. THIS is the PS2 version? Crisp, highly detailed and nice collision detecction. The ghost shadows from the background I guess "sticking" from CB is now gone. You know what I mean. The FMVs are amazing, and the in-game graphics arfe gorgeous for the series.
The first time I saw Rei's idle animation, I think I died. IDLE ANIMATIONS!!! Not even James Sunderland's chainsaw idle animation made my jaw drop like that. Maybe it helped that Rei has one of the nicest ass renderings since...well Miku, but that goes w/o saying.
Story, Voice Work
Voice work is stunning, but that's cuz I'm fond of Rei's Seiyuu. Story? Well, given my Japanese is limited to food, insults, and simple A wa B desu sentences, I wasn't getting every little detail, but from what I did understand its everything the mags have been saying: Yuu Aso (Rei's hot fiancee) perishes in a car accident in which she was driving. She lives in a lonely apartment with Miku Hinasaki (whose brother disappeared to parts unknown in the first Fatal Frame installment) and Ruri, a black kitty cat. While photographing the purportedly haunted House of Sleep, Yuu shows up in a photograph, and later that night, Rei dreams of chasing him through the house, stalked by ghosts and occasionally getting lost (damn but this place makes Himuro Mansion look straight forward). A woman she finds beset by black shadows begs to be awakened, and then there's these scary kids w/ hammers and quite an unplesant inkling of this installment's forbidden ritual.
I got through a few chapters, and unfortunately had to go just as I started Miku's story, but as far as I got: Miku dreams of chasing her brother's shadow once again through a graphical upgrade of Himuro mansion.
Thus so far, Tomented's stud muffin, Kei Amakura, is nowhere to be seen. Side note, instead of Kei, originally we were to take control of Mio again, but as her story is now finished, and she's in a coma, Kei stepped up.
Other Things
*Ruri
Not only does he sense spirits, but he also is the most interactive piece of background I've ever seen in a game. Screw the Elder God tentacles from Soul Reaver 2/Defiance. This cat responds (when he's not sleeping, of course) to Rei in purrs, meows and pats. Though he's most sociable in Miku's lap (damned lucky cat), I think its possible to get him to shake in other places of the apartment (a tea room and the living room couch are the other places I've seen him). Its like the dog training in Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life only cuter. Cuz cats are cute. Yopu can get accessories for him too, like the accessories in the previous installment (but no giant pumpkin head T_T).
*Different Cameras
Initially, you're armed with Rei's working camara. It makes an audibly different soun d when the shutter goes off. Not the impressive, flash burst from the previous installments, but a passive, subtle click. It does NOT do damage, as I learned when being pursued by a knife wielding maniac. So, take note: early in the game, you cannot hurt anything, nor can you actually kill. When you get the real camera obscura, you're now stockded with a limited amount of film (14) that replenishes iyts basic film between chapters or missions. On occasion, you may get dangerously close to running out. Tip: use the regualr camera for wandering "clues" or door charms and leave the combating to Prof. Aso's trusty flash box.
*Sound
Play this game w/surround sound. You'll love Tecmo for it.
Or hate them, depending on your fear tolerance level.
*Game/Chapter Structure
The one thing that kinda bothered me was the striking similarity in chapter divisions and overall plot structure to Silent Hill 4: The Room. Its only in one detail, but the parallels were obvious to the Hill Veterans who watched me play. In between your various tasks in the House of Sleep, Rei will wake up from her incredibly linear and detailed ongoing nightmare. You are given a cutscene where the tattoo curse slowly makes its way across her skin. The same one. Everytime. You wake up. Its gets repetitive, even to a fan who likes the amount of skin in this game. Its not unlike Henry Townsend, who wakes up in between his stints in the frightening world of Silent Hill, the same way everytime you climb in a hole.
Going broad, the similarities are as thus for the homes in which both Reri and Henry inhabit. Both make their not-so-merry way through thier nightmares, wake up in the exact same way every time, and as time goes on, thier hermatages will slowly get more haunted. For Henry, this is bad as it creates bad headaches and interious design. For Rei, it just means she might get jumped in the shower. Either way, the ghosts somehow worm their way into reality until the reality becomes a nightmare.
Its just that Rei's a bit more good looking than Henry. And, again, Henry doesn't have a shower scene, but it might have helped his fangirl contingency.

Anyway, there's my take. The last one got eaten by my comp when it crashed. Yes, I crashed my mac laptop. It can happen.
BTW, this game is now making its way to my hot lil hands this month, the 25th to be exact. It makes me very happy, since my PS2 will be used for something other than my pathetic attempts at playing Silent Hill. Harry Mason is an old fart.

I love my pink DS. Its so cute. ^^ And it plays Nintendogs roughly 80% of its time. My Shiba rocks my ass, he's sooooo cute. If you have a DS and like puppies, Nintendogs is justification for spending outrageous amounts of battery power trying to get your dog to roll over.

Another reson for buying a DS? Animal Crossing: Wild World. Yes, now even I can waste battery life even faster. Look for this gem in December. And the surgery game. Its startlingly addictive. Its like Operation w/o the big naked white guy w/ no cash and prizes.

Dane Cook is one silly bitch. And looks a lot like Hentai Overfiend. Its true I swear.

Well, its about noon and I need to eat cuz this cold's kicking my ass to next tuesday. Go read "I Am a Japanese School Teacher". He's flippin' amazing.

*Until next time, Lunies!*

I'm...Old...Again

Kozumi's Quote of the Week:
"Uh-huh. If you ever try that again, I will give you the biggest kancho in the history of Japan," I say. "General Tojo will feel it 60 years ago, and call his planes back before they get to Pearl Harbor. Got it?"
--Azrael from Ass Wars chapter

I need to get friends who aren't younger than me and remind me of the gap. XD I'm only 22, I'm not old yet!!

For a great laugh, GO HERE NOW. God bless the Japanese.

I've been addicted to Animal Crossing for the Gamecube for about a week. WHY is this game so damned addicting??? I've done nothing but play AC and watch 80's heavy metal band concert DVDs.

Speaking of which, I've been helping out with a couple guys from my dad's work. They're doing a mockumentary on 5-6 bands, sorta like "This Is Spinal Tap", but with the same two guys in every band. XD I'm doing character designs and storyboards. ^^ I've always wanted to do sb's so now I have a great opportunity to do something non-school related. I can even put it in my portfolio for next year/semester. So all in all that's what's been new...and what's been keeping me from updating as often. ^^;;

That and my fanatical watching for Fatal Frame 3 news. I've been plugging Eimi-chan's site for awhile.... And if you don't know about Fatal Frame...then why the hell are you reading?

Loki: Maybe cuz they want to know more.

XD Yeah. Go play one of the best sleeper survival horror game series ever. Cute girls, scary atmosphere, great story, and innovative combat interface. Tecmo's over-blowing their DoA girls, its abolut time for someone with a brain on the shoulders instead of two big boobs and nothing else....tho there's nothin' wrong w/ that too....XD

Well, its late, and Tri-levlin is the worst hormone treatment ever. Irregular periods suck, but morning sickness sucks even more. I need the patch....XD Ah, who know what I'm talking about, huh? Nite Lunies.

*Sleep Tight, Lunies!*

What You About to Watch is Not a News Broadcast

Kozumi's Word of the Week:
"I was going to go pick up Inuki. So I flipped a coin. And he lost."
--Tama, on why he was at my house and Inuki was not

Rya: Let's see. Another long hiatus.
Loki: We blame Art 50.
Syndelin: And now that class has been over for how long...?
Aro: Laziness.
Rya: Ha. Well, we still love you Lunies. So here's your semi-annual update.
Coleco: XD Yeah. The next one should be available next fall.
Rya: XD Right. So, introductions. I'm Rya "Rei Kurosawa" Li St. John.
Aro: Ah, so we're doing a Fatal Frame themed update. Well, I'm Aro "Yuu Aso". Which makes me the dead guy....
Loki: I'm Loki, which I suppose make me and Loki-chan the Amakura Twins. I call Mio.
Syndelin: I'm Syndelin "Miku Hinasaki".
Coleco: And I'm Coleco "Yae Munakata" Vision. And we all are packing. ^^
Loki: XD Yeah, 35 mm.
Rya: Ok, so Fatal Frame 3. What's new?
Syndelin: According to Tecmo, they're about 90% or so done. The Japanese will be getting the game next month, and we on the stateside will be getting it in September.
Aro: Which means we'll be getting sweet, sweet camera action from those lovely Tecmo ladies. Miku's no longer jailbait, is wearing thigh-highs, crawls under floorboards, and sweet Lord Jeesus, Rei has a shower scene.
Rya: -_- Well, I know what you guys are waiting for. We real gamers are more concerned with the story; why did Yuu, Rei's dead fiancee, show up in a photo of a haunted mansion? Why did Miku's powers come back? Why is Kei looking for Mio, his niece?
Loki: How many scenes involve Rei in her various forms of undress?
*Syndelin dropkicks Loki*
Coleco: ^^ Hard to believe Capcom dropped this survival horror.
Aro: It didn't have guns.
Coleco: Ah.
Rya: So, as usual, see Beyond the Camera's Lens for everything Zero related. Plus she has screencaps for the trailers. We love screencaps.
Loki: So will your girlfriend!
...........................
Loki: Never mind.

Well, another montho or so goes by, and the immense amount of video games keeps me away from the comp... Well, that and the one million oekaki's out there in the Lad of the Rising Sun. I've officially moved out of the stone age and have been on my laptop for all my internet needs since Feburary. I love my laptop.....^^

This Fanime, for those who went, I retired from actively doing skits and went back to my roots. Yes, folks, I was a Stage Ninja. Sexy Move-Stuff-Around no Jitsu Cuz moving a Katamari requires the serivice of a SN.

Stage Ninja's do it without your seeing. 'Nuff said.

I've been lazing around, so nothing new has happened. My grandparents just celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Which is frickin' sassy cuz I love them so much. ^^ I'm glad I was able to see such a grand and simple testament to the power of comitment, love, and putting up with the same old fart for this many years....XD Cheers, Granny and Granpa!

Sheila, my German Shepard mix, is the best dog in the world. Just wanted to point that out. She climbs fences and swims. And Simba, our cat, is a Weeble that sleeps all day. I never thought animals could be pear-shaped. But Simba does it very well. And Tinkerbell is....well, getting fat, like Simba. I love our am-min-als....^^

Day time TV is bad for your sanity and butt size.

Shout out to HentaiOverfiend. Tarrin's cute. ^^ Get a Mad Hatter Hat.

Um....I'm running on empty now, so gonna grab a bite and I'll catch you Lunies later.

Rya: Again, with the spring cleaning.
Loki: Not so bad. Clio's kept it nice....can't say much for the dust tho....
Aro: That would be mine. I wanted to make the place look dead in celebration for the coming of Fatal Frame 3.
Syndelin: Hold on, I'll hook up the music....
*cues music, in the vein of bad porn*
Rya: Well then. Welcome back to Random Lunacy, after the spring hiatus. We're posting this week from the RanLune Brothel.
Aro: Excellent. I'll go get some $1's.
Rya: Introductions, in case we forgot...
Loki: Hold that thought, here comes the title.

Testing...Testing...1, B, III....

Kozumi: Here comes the quote....There we go.

Kozumi's Quote of the Week:
"With all of these irresistable offers served up to me on a plate, I WANT A PENIS NOW!!!!"
--Laurie Notaro, on e-mail spam, We Thought You Would Be Prettier

Aro: That's...that's charming, Kozu.
Kozumi: Right. I did my bit, I'm outta here.
Loki: We gonna get a Word of the Week?
Syndelin (off camera): Yeah, I crashed Clio making AMV's.....so we won't have that up.
Rya: Swell. Well, readers, welcome to another insanity intensive episode of RanLune.
Aro: Lies. Vicious lies.
Loki: So, a brothel, eh? I thought we were posting from Crystal Chronicles.
Rya: Oh, Tipa? LOL FIne, I'm Rya Li St. John, Female White Cap Clavat.
Aro: I'm Aro, Male Natural Clavat.
Loki: Au natual, ne? XD I'm Loki, and I like being a Male Bandanna Selkie.
Kozumi: And I'm Kozumi, a Male Black Mage Yuke.
Loki: Why a Yuke? They's ugly mo-fos.
Kozumi: Cuz I can cast spells to burn people like you.
Rya: Riiiight. So. News?
Aro: Fatal Frame 3. Three times the pleasure, three times the fun.
Kozumi: If you call scary ass ghosts fun.
Aro: You're just scared cus you watched Shutter with the lights off.
Kozumi: Loki told me it was Pokemon 4ever!
Rya: ......You deserved to be scared.
Aro: As usual check Beyond the Camera's Lens for all your Fatal Frame needs. Shout out to Eimi!
Rya: Oops....here comes the chicken. BRB, peoples.

Ostara: ^^ Kirei.

On another cool note: I HAVE FINISHED THE SPIRIT LIST AND CONQUORED MISSION MODE!!!!!! I have the Gothic Lolita outfits!! Mio has a butterfly tattoo on her chest/neck/clavicle area and has blond hair and blue eyes. Mayu's costume is prettier tho...^^ I love those costumes. And might I say that Mission 21 is a BITCH. Stupid kids....>< Kono gaki. Anyway, just wanted to rejoyce cuz those missions are freakin' HARD.

Stupid Dead Kids....

Kozumi's Quote of th Week:
"Mio's older twin sister, a quiet, withdrawn...oh, who are we kidding, she's a gimp who gets possessed at the drop of a hat and limps off into the heart of danger."
--Souls at Zero, Mayu's description

What's on Dez's Desktop: Sae, the Repentence; Kirie and Miku; Tsuzuki puppy groveling; Wet Panto; Osaka CHARGE!

Well, back in the saddle again. Its Spring Break, yo! Time to par-tay like 1999! Cuz frankly, we didn't in 1999.

Dio: Good to see that Prince is still alive and kicking here.... Damn it, Syn! Turn off that blazing song!
Syndelin: *sheepishly turns off music*

Been reading up on whatever I can get my hands on.... I've just obtained a Fatal Frame 2 FAQ for the Spirit List, and since Sat. night I've been bisting my ass off trying to get all 152 ghosts. Today's 4 hour endevour involved me trying to capture a little kid who runs about 100 mph thru a hallway. Kono gaki......>< This brat took me hurs to get, and all I got for it was an empty pic and a spirit listing. So far, I've gotten every ghost in the first 5 chapters on Hard Mode, but it isn't easy. I am desperately looking for tips and help on the missions because I really want those gothic lolita outfits. ^^;;

Tomorrow, I'm heading up to SF and SFMOMA (the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art BTW), and Wednesday I'm mosying down to Tracy to see Tamago's family's new house. Maybe we'll see Inuki too. So! For those who are planning to be in my photo shoot, the plan is for Thursday, 12-1 pm, at the Student Union (SJSU). Please wear nice white dress shirts if possible, and dark/black pants. If anyone has a bag of apples, please bring those too. I'll call you participants either tomorrow or Wed nite. Thanx!

If anyone can send me nice fanart of any charas from Fatal Frame (1 & 2), I'll huggle you til your head pops off. ^^ How 'bout we make this your homework assignment? ^^ X3

Gotta go eat, catch ya later Lunies!

Would You Like a Horny Pack?

Clio's Word of the Week:
LOL (abbrv): Laugh out loud.

What's On Dez' Desktop: Raziel, Reaver of Souls (Doll Reaver); Raziel's Bust; Miku glancing warily behind (Fatal Frame 1).

*Lays on bed, keyboard on lap, propped up by pillows* Gruuuuu......I feel sluggish. Yet my fingers itch to play Fatal Frame 2.... Ah, to gaze upon the frightened face of Mayu and take her picture. Yes, its true, I dedicated one whole album (space to keep 16 pictures) to Mayu, in the 2 kimonos and her regular outfit. And 2 pix of Itsuki...gotta stay consistent, no? XD I'm almost done w/ Hard Mode, hoping that i live through the battle w/ the last, last boss in the game.... ^^;; I admit, though the game ceases to keep me up at night, I still fear...no make that ph34r the Bloddy Kimono. Sae's insane laughter haunts my dreams.

Speaking of dreams, I finally had a Fatal Frame dream...it was kinda odd. I was in All God's Village...and I had the Camera Obscura. So I'm running around, and the odd thing was, besides running from ghosts and snapping pix like mad, was that at the same time, I was doing my photo project for photo class...XD For this project, I have to write down my individual shutter speed and aperture readings for every pic in a notebook. I was fighting some boss type ghost, and I had snapped about 6 pix before realizing I had forgotten to write down my measurments (as if you could blame me ^^;; ). I was more concerned with that than the angry ghost villagers....eh, so I have my priorities wrong...^^;; Still a neat dream none the less. I got to wear Mio's cute outfit. ^^

Aro: I'm not liking this camera thing. I took a pic of Mayu in that one section where Sae summons her uber-ghost...and all these hands pop up in the pic rather than her face.
Loki: I can see where that would give you cause for concern...but it just strengthens the point that Mayu is possessed.
Aro: I don't mean that. I mean, it was a really cute pic. She looks all scared...its kinda hot.
Loki: ........
Aro: ^_^ Lucky that it doesn't have the hands in the album pic.
Loki: You have problems.

Today seems to be a LOTR day, as my sis and Dad are watching Two Towers as I type away. Smegol is creepy through a closed door.

BTW, Inuki-kun, I dreamt of crabs agai, but no lightning. Does that mean I'm gay, but not super gay? XD

vamp
You are Form 9, Vampire: The Undying.

"And The Vampire was all that remained on
the blood drowned creation. She attempted to
regrow life from the dead. But as she was
about to give the breath of life, she was
consumed in the flame of The Phoenix and the
cycle began again."

Some examples of the Vampire Form are Hades (Greek)
and Isis (Egyptian).
The Vampire is associated with the concept of
death, the number 9, and the element of fire.
Her sign is the eclipsed moon.

As a member of Form 9, you are a very realistic
individual. You may be a little idealistic,
but you are very grounded and down to earth.
You realize that not everything lasts, but you
savor every minute of the good times. While
you may sometimes find yourself lonely, you
have strong ties with people that will never be
broken. Vampires are the best friends to have
because they are sensible.

Which Mythological Form Are You?

....I really don't know what to think of this. Spooky how it seems so me.

Well, back to rekindling my drawing and writing spirit.... I have a feeling Friday and last night's block was mostly due to a moping Heimdall. Ryochan may know why...XD Gotta go backhand him back into being less angsty. *sigh* Can't live with him, can't kick him out.... Damn Aquarians...XD;;

Click...Click....

Hey Lunies. Quick post today, as I have things to do, like finishing Mary Shelly's 1818 version of Frankenstein for Fantasy and Science Fiction Class.

School update: Well, I'm up to a full schedule...meaning I get health insurance this semester. If I'm ultra lucky, I can get 15 units (5 classes) Monday. But for those whom were praying or wishing for my behalf, thanks. But because I had to add an all day Friday class (9am-3:50pm), I had to cancel my driver's test, making it highly unlikely I'll be driving before my 21st birthday, making me either super lazy--

Lex: Guilty.

--Or just lame.

Aro: Double guilty.

*Beans the two w/ a pan* And the subject of my birthday is: I'm having a party on the 14th (yes Valentine's Day) but I'm still figuring it out on where to hold it. Watch this space and Tsu.nu Forums for further updates.

Been surfing the internet for more info on the first Fatal Frame game, and I've found some great web sites. The first is this fansite w/ fanart. It basically tells you almost everything, so for those whodon't want spoilers, avoid the red text.
red light
Another great site for either game is this one. Unfortunately its all in Japanese, yet it has some trailers, wallpapers and other neat things if you navigate carefully. http://www.tecmo.co.jp/product/ff/
And a third for the second game, Crimson Butterfly. Its got basic info, but the site's done really well. Check it out.
fatalframe2.com
For interesting sound bites from the first game: http://www.geocities.com/prlftt/fatalframe.html
And an unfinished Crimson Butterfly page that links to a Miku fansite, Eyewitness:
Eyewitness: Crimson Butterfly
And a lil something that shows that Fatal Frame may be based on more real things than you thought....
The Visitor, from the Shadowlands Gallery

Wheew! That sums up my day! Except for the 80's t-shirt site me and the Funkygreenmermaid (XD, who is this, I wonder??) oggled over, but that's for another day. Hey! Dez figgered out how to link things! Who's your daddy??

See? I Can Flutter Better Than You thought

What's on Dez's desktop: Chii and Black Chii clasping hands in matching outfits; Vincent Marcone's disturbing Home Sweet Home; a Loki & Reiya montage; DMC's sexy Dante

8:30. What was I doing up so early while still on vacation? Reading blogs, dispensing my 2 cents in some cases, checking out some movies that are in the works, downloading some new pix from Vincent Marcone, and listening to "Chou" one time too many back to back with "Until The Day I Die" by Story of the Year. No, I wasn't researching programs for ripping FMVs from a PS2 game, so that I can make AMVs with Fatal Frame 2 or LoK:Defiance. Heavens no.

Dio: She lies.
Lolita: How can you tell?
Dio: Her lips were moving.
*badum bum psh*

Since FF2 (no, I don't mean Final Fantasy) has been handed back to Tsubasa-kun for the time being, I'll be butterfly-less until I decide to shell out $50 for it myself, or until my b-day in a few weeks if I ask it as my sole present besides a hooker and a bottle of Almond DiSarono. XD So I suppose I'll just have to stare at this screenshot of Itsuki Tachibana until then..... Man I love dead bishis.

Raz: Does she mean us, Aro?
Aro: I have no idea but I'm likin' it.
Loki: Looks like we're gonna be wearing kimonos any day now. She's gonna make us wear make up to make us paler too, isn't she?
Aro: Just you lifers. Us dead guys can get a great pale pallor by just letting out hearts stop no problem.
Raz: And such is the plight of the undead.

50 Disturbing Things soon tobe forthcoming. But until then, here are the lyrics to "Chou".

Chou (Butterfly)

Deep underground, I kept digging a hole
Without knowing where it would lead.
With a dirt-covered eyepiece in one hand,
I search for your arm.

Scraping together patchwork happiness, and sewing it
I was crushed by your strength.

Burned on, Burned on,
The inerasable scars left by the palms of my hands.
Sever a rift in the red-stained clouds with my torn hands,
See, I can flutter better than you thought.

The eternity that I dreamed while confined in my cocoon
Where will it take seed and blossom?
The morning will eventually come and bring the darkness back home
And steal my eyes away from me.

Fumbling for you by moonlight, overlapping and entangling with you,
I believe I could become your true hiding place.

Burned down, Burned down,
The place of our promise that will never return.
Run across the black-stained earth with a torn-off agony
See, I can flutter better than you thought.

If you can’t hear me, even though I scream,
I want you to destroy me with your own hands
While you can still hold me dear.

Your arms that hold me back
Turn into a gentle dust.
I simply stare at the sky, silently.

Burned on, Burned on
The inerasable scars left by the palms of my hands
Sever a rift in the red stained clouds with my torn hands

Burned down, Burned down,
The place of our promise that will never return.
See, I can flutter better than you thought.

Oneesan...Do Ko??

Kozumi's Quote of the week:
"Hey, cutie...you got a twin brother?? ....Is he dead too? ^^"
--the first thing that struck my head upon seeing Itsuki Tachibana in Fatal Frame 2

If anyone's been wondering where our host has been, she's been intermittently playing and fearing the survival horror gem Fatal Frame 2. ^^ What can I say? I admit I'm hooked, and not cuz the charas are cute. Its got a sad story, and the scare tactics are pretty good. I'm hooked on the theme song Butterfly (Chou) and I've sent my minons to search for the music video.
For those who aren't into the survival horror genre or have played other games like Silent Hill instead of this sleeper hit, Fatal Frame's premise is that you run around, taking pictures of misshapen ghosts with the Camera Obscura, a camera that can see the unseen and exorcise spirits when taking pix. In the second installment, you play as Mio Amakura, who along w/ her twin sister Mayu, are trapped in the Lost Village, All God's Village, and must escape the dead villagers; and all through the story, there are clues about a ritual in which one twin kills the other.
I LOVE THIS GAME. And yes, Tsubasa-kun, I will give it back soon, as I am going to buy my own copy tomorrow if fate allows.

So! Aro, I'm gonna give you this exorcizing camera and I'm sening you to this ridiculously haunted house and village and I want you to take pictures of vengeful, murderous ghosts.

Aro: Only if I get a hot chick to follow me around, walking 2 miles an hour and wears cute outfits, and is the bait so I can get Fatal Frames.

Um, you can take Loki.

Aro: Then he has to wear the skirt and boots.
Loki: XP You wanna crimson butterfly?
Aro: Can't, we're not twins.
Loki: Minor problem.

Now, you 2 take good pix ok? And make sure neither of you comes back with...unusual markings on your necks, ne?

Rya: Like a giant hickey?
Loki: No, Rya, that's not a butterfly....-_-
Rya: Hey...this Itsuki guy...he gonna be....haunting the premises?
Aro: Dunno. You wanna come too?
Rya: Hell yeah. He IS a twin.....
Loki: Dear Lord...you two and dead people.... As long as she wears the cute skirt-tights combo.
Rya: ......fine.
Aro: As long as we split the Tachibana twins.

^^;;; Well, no doubt will the Fatal Frame posts continue...mayhaps even the wacky adventures of Aro, Loki, and Rya in the village of dead vengeful ghosts. XD

MAFUYU
You are Mafuyu. You're loyal to those who have
helped you,
but will that be your fatal flaw?

Pretty, Pretty Butterflies....

Clio's Word of the Week:
Hammerspace (n)-- A magical, mythical plcae from which female anime characters pull out large mallets, guns, or other such weaponry or blugoning object when they become angry (the better to smash the male chara, who is no doubt responsible for engendering the wrath of the female).

MacWorld freakin r0x0rs. Though Iomega (responsible for the wonderfully odd and someimes downright stupid brightly colored buttons I'm wont to collecting) was not present, like Slashdot (whom may be attending the Boston con instead), I did get to see some pretty neat stuff. Like the new iPod Minis. Holy cow, those were cool. They're tinier than a normal iPod (the newer ones like mine), and come in fruity new colors like lavender, power blue and my fave: pink. They can only hold, like, 1,000 songs but nonetheless, if you have a small iTunes library, its perfect. A bunch of the Apple guys were wearing them on their sleeves via an arm band and they look cool. ^^ Made me miss Byakko like a bitch tho.....but I managed to buy an ipod skin for Byakko, so now I really do have a pink ipod. Ph34r teh p1|\|k 1p0|>. For those of you who hate l33t, screw you. XP
There was something else that really caught my fancy, but I'll get to that in a later post. Trust me, its sooooooooo cool. ^_~

In short, there was much funage at MacWorld, though my feet hurt....XD Got to see some really cool things and brought home some demos. Syndelin, our resident MacHead, was very pleased, as this was the only con that Dio didn't make her dress up for. XD

Syndelin: I do NOT cosplay. Thank you.
Dio: Aw, but cosplay is fun! *plans ipod commercial costume*

Hey, 3 cons a year, not bad for RanLune, ne?

In reference to Mon's quote, I've just finished Dean Koonntz's new novel "Odd Thomas", a great book. I recommend it to any Kootnz fan, but if you want a really good 1st person narritive by him, I'd recommend "Fear Nothing" And "Seize the Night" more than "Odd Thomas". The premise to OD is about Odd Thomas (yes, his first name's really Odd), a short-order cook who can see dead people (pause for side-splitting laughter from the Sora/Haley Joel Osment fangroup), and often is enlisted by the dead in solving crime surrounding thier deaths, much like Tsuzuki's role in Yami no Matsuei, only that Odd's not dead or a shinigami. August 14th, he finds evidence that some cataclysmic massacre will occur the next day, and with the help of spirits (one being the King of Rock himself), attempts to halt the oncoming onslaught. Its a sad, bittersweet ending though, so bring a tissue. All in all, we here give OD a thumbs up and 4 stars outta 5.

Inha: I thought reviewing books was MY job??
Syndelin: Don't worry, you're still late w/ "American Gods".
Inha: Hush you.

Well, tonight's the night: TenTen's bringin' Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly to my house with hopes to finish it. Fun game, and I'm eager to see how it all ends, despite the unchanging CG expressions of the charas within and the mediocre voice acting. If anyone's played though at least the first 2 chapters of it and would like to summarize it for me, I'd appreciate it. I feel like I missed a lot by missing the first 2 chaps. BTW, Mayu is a gimp. XD

Sate, minna-san. Gonna wrap up. Hopefully there will be another post within the next 2 days. Until then, don't concentrate too hard or your head will explode!

*Til next time, Lunies!*
